Our Story

  • Cal Poly Women’s Water Polo is a student-led Cal Poly Club Sports Team that provides its players with the opportunity to compete competitively at a collegiate level.

  • Our team competes in the CWPA Collegiate Water Polo Association’s club league, in the Pacific Coast Division.

  • We are a tight-knit community of 28-32 young women who fill two full travel rosters: an A and B team, as well as our practice team.

  • To date, Cal Poly Women’s Water Polo has won eight National titles as well as various regional titles over recent years.

  • Our club is primarily funded by generous donations and sponsors from within our Cal Poly community.

Practice/ Tryout Schedule

  • Our pre-season begins with the WOW club fair showcase, where we meet prospective players and welcome them to our first pre-season event: hiking the Cal Poly P.

  • Preseason practices are open to all prospective players! Traditionally held twice a week, the practices commence on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.

  • Our regular season starts with a two-week tryout period on the first day of school during Winter Quarter. At the end of this tryout period, cuts will be made, and the travel and practice team players will be announced.

  • Season practices start with stretching outside the Mott Athletic Center Gym and are from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday at the Cal Poly Anderson Aquatics Center.

  • Our main season’s length depends on whether the team qualifies for the National Tournament.

Tournament Schedule

  • Our program has several pre-season tournaments, traditionally traveling with returning players to San Diego State University, along with two more local day tournaments with Cuesta College and the University of Santa Cruz.

  • Our main season starts on the first day of school during following winter break. Our main season consists of three league tournaments, concluding with our regional tournament, where the Mustangs compete for a spot at nationals.

  • Our postseason in the spring consists of Alumni weekend and a tournament, along with an additional tournament at the University of Santa Cruz.

  • Spesific dates and times of our tournaments and scrimmages will be updated regularly on our Instagram and in our Google Calendar, which can be accessed via the QR code below.
